About Green Wood
Wood products considered "green" include Reclaimed wood from deconstructed buildings, Salvage wood from standing dead forests and submerged logs, and Green Certified wood from sustainably managed forests. The use of green wood reduces environmental impacts and can support and enhance the social and economic health of the source community.
Reclaimed Wood: This terms covers wood products that are reclaimed from existing structures or products and remanufactured into new products. Examples include old buildings, bridges, and wine barrels. Learn more
Salvage Wood: A salvage product is a whole log, as distinguished from a manufactured wood product such as a plank. Our use of the term "salvage" covers all sources that are not harvested from a natural forest or plantation: urban forests, waterways, agricultural settings, etc. Many people use the term "salvage" to describe the re-use of manufactured wood products such as doors or floor boards. To avoid confusion, we use the term "re-used" for those products. Learn more
Green Certified Wood: This category covers products that come out of forests and plantations managed to high standards of environmental and social responsibility, many of which are certified according to the Principles & Criteria of the Forest Stewardship Council. FSC certification is widely considered to be the "gold standard" for forestry and forest products, and enjoys the support of most major environmental groups, including the World Wildlife Fund, The Nature Conservancy, and the Sierra Club.
